ENA by Zayo has made the difficult decision to discontinue ENA TrustCompute. ENA will maintain the ENA TrustCompute platform through July 2025. We will apply security updates and conduct regular platform maintenance throughout the remainder of the product's lifecycle.
What does this mean for ENA TrustCompute?
All customers will be required to migrate their virtual machines to a new hosting platform before the end of service.
When will this take effect?
The ENA TrustCompute platform will be shut down on July 31, 2025. ENA recommends migrating your virtual machines to a new platform before the cut-off date.
Any virtual machine or stack running on July 31, 2025, will be powered down and removed from the platform.
Recommendations
The cloud computing market is abundant with options. ENA recommends contacting multiple providers and asking for educational pricing that suits your needs.
The following are the top three cloud computing companies that offer educational packages:
- Microsoft Azure
- Amazon Webservices
- Google Cloud
Unfortunately, due to technical and licensing restrictions, we are unable to offer automated tools for migrating virtual machines to other platforms.
Next Steps
First, identify a new compute hosting service that meets your requirements. This can be a lengthy process, and we strongly suggest researching multiple providers. This type of migration is referred to as Remove and Replace. Assess your current environment and plan your migration. It's important to remember that migration is a journey.
Second, identify a migration method allowing you to export your data and migrate services with minimal downtime. If you are planning to migrate to Azure, Microsoft has multiple guides and tools for transferring services, such as Azure Migrate. If you migrate to Amazon EC2, AWS offers migration services and tools. Google Cloud also has easy-to-use guides on how to migrate to their services.
ENA is unable to provide an export file of a virtual machine into a consumable format for other hosting platforms. This is due to technical, licensing, and contractual restrictions.
Lastly, we strongly recommend ensuring your data security by removing all sensitive data from the ENA TrustCompute platform once your services have been migrated.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your account service manager (ASM) or ENA’s CTAC.
